Distribution
Florida to southeastern Virginia (Dismal Swamp) in coastal lowlands.
Notes
Mainly nocturnal, but may be seen at dawn or dusk. Swims well and readily enters water when pursued; can walk on its hind legs. Habitat is brackish and freshwater marshes, edges of lakes and mangroves and other wet areas.
