Chief Science Officer

Hubbs-SeaWorld Research Institute

The Chief Science Officer (CSO) is a member of the Institute’s executive team and reports directly to the President/CEO. This critical role leads HSWRI’s scientific research operations toward fulfilling its public-trust mission. The Institute is an independent non-profit established in 1963 by the founders of SeaWorld to “return to the sea some measure of the benefit’s derived from it”. The Institute has a long history of field research throughout the United States, along all its coastlines, and around the world. The CSO establishes scientific priorities and coordinates the organizational and administrative assets that support the Institute’s scientists in their efforts to achieve those goals. Working with the CEO and the Development team, the CSO will interface with the community to share the Institute’s scientific accomplishments, translate results for non-scientific audiences, and present the program in a way to attract further support from donors.
