John Stuhler is a PhD student at Texas Tech University and has received grants from the American Society of Mammalogists and the Texas Comptroller. He has published his work in Biological Invasions, Oecologia, and Journal of Biogeography. He has been a member of ASM for 8 years and has presented at 5 ASM meetings.
Mr. Stuhler’s dissertation work combines data from museum specimens with field surveys across the historical range of the threatened Texas kangaroo rat (Dipodomys elator) to better understand impacts of environmental change on habitat use and selection by the Texas kangaroo rat as well as on rodent community composition and metacommunity dynamics. He plans to use the funds from this grant to study Texas kangaroo rat space use, dispersal, and habitat selection in order to better understand how this species is utilizing available habitats.
