Patchy occurrence in mountains from extreme S Utah and extreme S Colorado to C Arizona and New Mexico; south in Sierra Madres through interior Mexico to C Oaxaca (current map indicates no Utah or Colorado presence - need to verify)
Notes
Active day or night, but most active at midday or at dusk in high mountains. Nests in shallow underground burrows or under logs; litter size is smaller than in most voles, usually 2-3. Habitat is grassy areas near ponderosa pine and other conifers; found
