WHEREAS, the 66th annual meeting of the American Society of Mammalogists was held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison on 15-19 June 1986; and
WHEREAS, in spite of initial threats we enjoyed outstanding weather; and
WHEREAS, the view of whitecaps, sail boats, and sunbathers on Lake Mendota was enjoyed; and
WHEREAS the Madison drivers repeatedly tried in vain to expand the collections of the Zoological Museum by adding road-killed mammalogists; and
WHEREAS, an attempt was made to sell University of Wisconsin jogging suits by diverting luggage to parts unknown; and
WHEREAS, our scholarly papers competed successfully with jugglers, dancers, musicians, vendors, and other free spirits around The Fountain of Knowledge; and
WHEREAS, we all contributed to the study of maze-learning behavior in the Memorial Union; and
WHEREAS, the trophic complexity of mid-morning snacks was rivaled only by the species diversity of barley beverages; at least early in the evening; and
WHEREAS, we survived the "wurst" of Wisconsin;
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the American Society of Mammalogists express its heartfelt thanks to the University of Wisconsin-Madison, the Local Committee, and particularly to our colleagues John Kirsch and Frank Iwen for a memorable meeting.
