Distribution

SE USA, fro SE Oklahoma, extreme S Illinois and SE Virginia, southwards, skirting the S Appalachians, to E Texas, the Gulf States, and peninsular Florida

Notes

Climbs and swims well. Eats a variety of plant and animal foods. Prefers wet forests, hammocks and swamps; also found in pine woods, thickets and rocky bluffs. Omnivorous.
