Northeast, Great Lakes region, Appalachians, Arkansas and west; Alaska and northern Canada but absent in Nevada and Great Plains. Southern distributions spotty into Mexico.

Notes

Usually not aggressive. Adults climb trees. Black color most common, cinnamon and white phases also exist.
